Bites Nearby: Café Di Cento

Garden City Center eatery offers good food at great prices for breakfast and lunch.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Garden City Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here’s this week’s choice:

Café Di Cento: This eatery, located in the basement of 100 Quentin Roosevelt Blvd., also known as Garden City Center, delivers enjoyable breakfast and lunch combinations.

For early birds, breakfast starts at 7 a.m. Café Di Cento offers the usual fare of eggs, omelets, French toast, bagels and rolls. Prices are very reasonable, between $3.79 and $3.99 for breakfast combos.

Salads are prepared fresh daily and include the Caesar ($4.25, $5.50 with grilled chicken and $6.50 with grilled shrimp); as well as Greek salad or Mesculan & Endive Salad ($6) and the Chef Salad ($6.50). A gourmet salad special of Romaine, Iceberg or Mesculan with grilled chicken, sliced fresh mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, black olives and balsamic vinegar sells for $6.75.

Hot lunches are affordable as well. At the top of the price scale is the popcorn shrimp or chicken tenders, with fries, for $6.75.

All eight heroes at Café Di Cento are $5.75. Choices include grilled chicken with roasted pepper, smoked mozzarella, balsamic vinegar and olive oil; and roast beef, turkey and Muenster with honey mustard and mayo.

Café Di Cento: 100 Quentin Roosevelt Blvd. Lower Lobby; 516-393-0614. Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Closed Saturday and Sunday.
