World renowned dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy from Dancing With The Stars fame greeted shoppers at Bloomingdale's Roosevelt Field Thursday.
Chmerkovskiy and six professionally trained dancers from his Glen Head dance studio, Dance With Me, were on hand for the store's first fall event of the season, according to Alexandra Karcev, public relations director for Bloomingdale's.
"It is focused on the 'girl going back to college,'" she said. "The beat of the music goes with the theme of the night, the clothing that you wear is an expression of yourself."
Dancers, dressed with the latest fall fashions that can be purchased at Bloomingdale's, burned the floor with several choreographed numbers and taught a few of their moves to interested shoppers.
Those in attendance also had the rare opportunity to meet Chmerkovskiy, who said he started dancing at just 4 years old. He joined Dancing With the Stars in its second season and has been an active and respected contributor of the show.
"One of the best things about Dancing With the Stars is that it is promoting ballroom dancing and more people are starting to learn it," he said. "Since the beginning of the show we have come very far, and it is amazing to see how many more people are interested in ballroom dancing.
"Dancing is a great social activity," Chmerkovskiy said. "I like doing events that are part of the community."
