Chief Cavarra: It Was A Well-Coordinated Effort

Firefighters successfully extricate trapped driver in Wednesday's accident.

Garden City Fire Chief Charles Cavarra said the joint response to Wednesday's two-car accident at the intersection of Stewart and Franklin avenues that trapped a driver in her vehicle was a "well-coordinated effort."

Garden City's police responded to the afternoon crash, along with Garden City firefighters and Nassau County's Emergency Services Unit (ESU), who were on scene with their extrication equipment. Garden City Fire Department Heavy Rescue 146 and Engine 143 were also on scene, along with Chief Cavarra, Assistant Chief Joseph Nadolny and Lt. Pete Clancy.

According to Chief Cavarra, “It was a prolonged extrication due to the precarious position of the victim. Our firefighters and village police officers along with the assistance of Nassau ESU officers did an outstanding job in stabilizing the vehicle, providing medical aid to the victim and extricating the patient from the vehicle.”
