Pair Robbed at Gunpoint in West Hempstead

A 24-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were robbed at gunpoint early Sunday while walking in West Hempstead.

Nassau County Police are investigating the incident, which occurred around 3 a.m. Detectives said the two victims were walking in the vicinity of Hempstead Turnpike and Broad Street when they were approached by an unknown black male suspect displaying a handgun.

The suspect demanded money from the male victim, who surrendered his wallet, police said. It contained an unknown amount of U.S. currency and personal papers. Then, the robber grabbed the female victim’s pocketbook, which also contained an unknown amount of U.S. currency and personal papers, police said. No injures were report.

The subject fled on foot southbound on Broad Street and was seen entering a newer model two-door red Honda. The vehicle, which was occupied by two unknown black male suspects, fled the scene eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.

The subject is further described as approximately 20 years of age, 6’-feet tall, with a thin build, wearing blue jeans and a black-hooded sweatshirt.

Police Searching for Gunman in Lakeview

Police are still searching for the gunman of a shooting that occurred in Lakeview Friday evening.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 5:09 p.m., a 30-year-old man withdrew money from an ATM in a store on Woodfield Road. After withdrawing the money, the man was standing with friends on Bee Gee Court when he was approached by the suspect.

The suspect displayed an automatic handgun and demanded the 30-year-old's property, police said. The victim grabbed the suspect's arm and the suspect discharged the weapon.

After the weapon was fired, the victim stepped back and the suspect pointed the firearm at his face, firing one shot which struck the victim in the hand, police said. As the suspect fled, he discharged the weapon again striking the victim in the shoulder.

The suspect was last seen running northbound on Woodfield Road, police said.

The victim was transported by Nassau County ambulance to an area hospital for treatment where he is listed in stable condition. 

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, 18 to 22 years of age, wearing khaki pants, a white t-shirt and red baseball hat.

Mineola Man Arrested for Williston Park Burglary

Nassau County Police have arrested a Mineola man for allegedly breaking into a home on Dartmouth Street in Williston Park and taking jewelry and coins.

According to detectives, Charles R. Wilson, 30, of Mineola was seen by a plain clothes officer from the Nassau County Bureau of Special Operations walking eastbound on Dartmouth Street in Williston Park and retrieving a Honda motorbike which was concealed behind hedges on Broad Street at about 12:10 p.m. on June 6.

Wilson started the motorbike and drove southbound on Broad Street where he was stopped by the officer. The defendant was found to be in possession of jewelry and coins. Uniformed officers from the Third Precinct arrived and searched the area, discovering the items were taken from a home on Dartmouth Street.

Baldwin Man Arrested for Weapons Possession

David W. Randall, 45, of 2, of Baldwin, was arrested Sunday outside a resident in Hempstead for criminal possession of a weapon.

According to detectives, Randall was allegedly arguing with his 17 year old daughter.  When the argument escalated, the girl’s mother came outside and confronted the defendant.  At this time he allegedly stated, “I could have shot her,” and displayed a silver handgun to the 39-year-old victim. 

The defendant fled southbound on Meadowbrook Road toward Front Street where he was observed throwing a silver handgun into a rear yard on Front Street by a Hempstead Police Officer. A loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun was recovered at scene.  No injuries were reported at this time.

Randall is charged with second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and second-degree Menacing. He will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.

New Hyde Park Roslyn Savings Bank Robbed

The Roslyn Savings Bank on Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park was robbed Monday afternoon.

According to police, a Caucasian man about 40 years old, 6’ tall, wearing a green camouflaged t-shirt and a dark baseball cap with a Mercedes Benz logo, entered the bank at about 1:08 p.m. and presented a demand note to a teller.

The suspect obtained an unknown amount of money before fleeing on foot southbound on South 12th Street. There were no injuries reported.  Six employees and one customer were present at the time of the incident.
