February TVASNAC Meeting to be Held in Garden City
Trustee and EAB chair Laurence Quinn pushed for the change in location.
The Town Village Aircraft Safety and Noise Abatement Committee's (TVASNAC) February meeting is being held in Garden City - rather than its usual location at Lawrence Village Hall - to better allow residents of other member communities to attend, according to a report in the South Shore Standard.
Garden City village trustee and Environemtnal Advisory Board (EAB) chair Laurence Quinn made the motion, according to the Jan. 26 article:
Garden City trustee Laurence Quinn made the motion in the opening minutes of the first meeting since early late November, pushing for the meeting to move out its traditional Lawrence Village Hall meeting place more often and offered up his native Garden City Village Hall for the next meeting’s use.
The article also states:
The meeting was originally supposed to feature members from the cargo plane industry, which has been openly criticized at past meetings for causing the most noise and arriving and departing John F. Kennedy Airport at early morning hours.
Bill Huisman, a representative for the Aviation Development Council, was in attendance and updated the committee on several measures taking place at JFK, including the coming new version of Airport Monitor, an online tool to monitor incoming and outgoing air traffic with information to identify the plane. Huisman said the new monitoring system and software would be on the Aviation Council’s website within a short time. The website can be found at http://aviationdevelopmentcouncil.org.
The meeting will take place Monday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Garden City Public Library. Residents are encouraged to attend. The lower level meeting room can hold 96 people. Quinn said residents from nearby communities like Stewart Manor, Westbury, East Hills and Malverne are expected to attend. "We expect a little better showing of people who are impacted on the north part of the Town of Hempstead," Quinn said.
