Garden City Mom Arrested for DWI Under Leandra's Law
Mary McDonagh was arrested after failing sobriety tests on the Meadowbrook Parkway.
A Garden City woman was arrested Wednesday night after failing sobriety tests after an accident on the Meadowbrook State Parkway.
According to New York State Police, around 7:30 p.m., a trooper was dispatched to a two-car accident on the northbound side of the Meadowbrook State Parkway near the Northern State Parkway. When the trooper arrived on the scene, he observed that a Chevrolet had rear ended a Mercedes and that there were no injuries.
While interviewing the operator of the Chevrolet, Mary McDonagh, 48, of Garden City, the trooper detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. McDonagh was traveling with her two children, ages 9 and 11, at the time of the accident, police said.

According to police, McDonagh failed sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated. She produced a BAC of .16, twice the legal limit.
McDonagh was charged with aggravated DWI, a felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. She was held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court on Thursday.
