WWII Veteran Receives Village Citation

Mr. Robert Rudkin honored for his years of service to Garden City.

On Jan. 21, Robert (Bob) Rudkin received a village of Garden City citation recognizing his years of service to the village.

Mayor Don Brudie presented the citation during a private ceremony; present during the ceremony, were Bob’s sons, Robert and Peter, his wife, Pauline, and Fourth Street resident Cyril Smith of the American Legion.

Robert is a Garden City resident since 1958, past commander of the William Bradford Turner American Legion Post 265, president of the Garden City Assembly, president of the Garden City Swim Club, head of the Lions Club and advisor to the Garden City Board of Education.

Robert served his country in WWII as a lieutenant in Army Air Force flying a P-51 Mustang Fighter and was a POW from December 1944 until liberated in May 1945.

The Rudkin family wishes to thank Mayor Brudie for taking time out of his busy schedule to present this honor upon Bob. He was very pleased and appreciative.
