All I know is that at the end of the game the scoreboard read: Hits 0

The demographic, ages 18-35, that these shows target do not feel the way you or, for that matter I,Read More do. Sports talk radio is a diversion enjoyed by many of the younger generations who take their sports more seriously than those who have been following sports for many years. I remember listening to the Bill Mazer sports show on radio many years ago. That was a far different and intelligent type of show than those available today. Younger audiences like the stupidity and goofiness of talk show hosts such as Chris Carton and Chris Russo because they say such outrageous things that it causes the listeners to respond thereby extending the nonsense. Most of the current sports talk shows are not really interested in sports overall but, rather, focus strictly on the local professional baseball, football and basketball teams to the exclusion of any other sports activities. My advice is to listen in small doses, never listen to a player or coach interview and turn to public radio whenever you've just heard 5 minutes of uninterrupted commercials and station promotions.

I don't think it was an inability to act, it was an unwillingness.

Matt - although the Bills had a fantastic first game you must have been yearning for the days of JimRead More Kelly, or even Joe Ferguson, the last 10 years or so! And how can you make a prediction with NY'ers biggest rivals - not going to make many fans. I'll stick with Rex and the J-E-T-S!!!!

Preseason prediction was Eagles over the Pats, 27-20. I'm sticking with that. (For the record, I'm aRead More Bills fan.)

Good for you, Ed. I am confronted by joggers, some run in my area three or four abreast, and theyRead More wont budge as you approach them. I have had to come to a complete stop due to oncoming traffic. One woman finds the side of the road hazardous due to rocks, etc., so she runs six feet from the curb, near the middle of the road. Not safe. If you are that into jogging, go to a track or park. I was trying to back out of the driveway, and can't see due to the oak trees, and this jogger freaked out because she had to stop jogging for 8 seconds so I could exit my driveway onto the road. She said "didn't I see her??" No, I could not. But she saw me and kept coming due to the jogger's misguided sense entitlement. They think they own the road!

You're supposed to ride your bike on the street (law) and it's preferable to run on the streets asRead More well for continuity and the better pavement. Your complaints are pretty silly and you should slow down. If you can't control your car to avoid someone jogging on the road you should turn in your drivers license. Willie, you're just as silly if not a little more so.

Reader and Timeshare - Good feedback - totally agree that the cars riding through this town go tooRead More fast and often don't stop at stop signs - hence my comment about rolling stop signs. But why would anyone want to challenge those crazy (and illegal) drivers? Or put up an obstacle for those that are driving safely but maybe are new to driving or just very cautious? Better to be safe than sorry. And Timeshare - I guess you commented before reading the last couple of sentences - Let’s leave the streets to the cars, buses and bicycles. Let's have a little common courtesy for one another.

I'm good with the 'balance is key' comment, but not sure I can agree with the 'best defense is aRead More good offense'. I tried to make this point to be a reflection on youth sports and that many believe the only 'glory' comes from scoring, but the reality in sports, especially so in the pros, is that when it comes to crunch time (playoffs or a game 7) the good teams will usually turn to their defense to keep them in the game. Baseball, football, hockey and even pro basketball all depend on their defense to win the big games.
Great points, though in my sporting (and life) experience - balance is the key. Over time, a weakRead More offense will put great pressure on a d, who must always work to 'counter' what the opponent's offense does- a far more difficult/unforgiving task. Even the best d demands small breaks during the course of a game to re-group. Without a healthy scoring attack, you can not win. I always liked 'the best defense is a great offense'

Well put Ed

Don - my points exactly, the high school coaches are presented with game ready players more oftenRead More than not because of the advancement of our youth leagues. As I said, hats off to all those involved in our youth programs! The intent here was to focus on the girl's, but yes, Chaminade has an abundance of boys from our town helping them to become a ranked school in many sports. If you click over to the Mineola Patch you'll see the coverage for Chaminade.

Just look at all the great Garden City athletes that go to Chaminade, Sacred Heart, Kellenberg, etc.Read More and tout those schools too. Its the youth sports programs that should be lauded. The Garden City Rams Lacrosse, GCAA, Garden City Basketball, Garden City Centennials Soccer are the foundations. Once they are in High School they are ready. Its the coaches, parents, and grandparents as well as the athletes themselves that should be given credit. The Garden City Recreation Department should also be praised under Kevin Ocker. Chaminade and Sacred Heart Academy with many Garden City athletes on their teams have nationally ranked lacrosse, baseball, football, soccer, and basketball programs also and often play as difficult if not more difficult schedules.
