    The Long Island Children's Museum serves more than 265,000 children and adults annually and is considered LongMore Island's most well-attended museum.

    Activities run the gamut for kids and their grown-ups. The museum is currently home to 14 hands-on, interactive exhibit galleries, a 145-seat state-of-the-art theater and three classroom-size learning studios. Indoor and outdoor gallery spaces foster both independent and cooperative exploration and encourages concept development and skills building.

In addition to the experienced and professional staff, the Music Academy's curriculum is founded upon the following seven fundamental lessons: notation reading, technical proficiency, theoretical understanding, ear training, improvisation, composition and historical context.   • Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center

    The Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center is an interactive facility where you can experienceMore first-hand the job of a firefighter. Trace the history of firefighting in Nassau County through hands-on exhibits that feature fire apparatus and gear of today and yesterday.

    Currently, the museum is working on a 5,000 square-foot expansion, which will double the size of the current museum.

    The expansion will be done in three phases; Phase I includes a new area to display historical county apparatus. Several cases will be dedicated to memorabilia as well. And with help from the 71 Nassau County Volunteer Fire Departments, a pictorial exhibit of major fires in Nassau County is on display.

  • St. Paul's
    Stewart Ave & Rockaway Ave, Garden City, NY 11530

    Built as a memorial to Garden City's founder Alexander T. Stewart by his wife, Cornelia, St. Paul's served theMore community as a boys school for more than 100 years. The Episcopal Diocese closed the school in 1991 and when voters overwhelmingly approved the purchase of the property, the Village of Garden City acquired the 48.6 acres in 1993 for $8.5 million.

    The Main Building, a Victorian Gothic style building shaped like an "E," was completed in 1883. Cluett Gym (Hall) was completed in 1899 and contains a gym/auditorium and it once served as the school's theater. Many activities take place in Cluett Hall today. Ellis Hall was completed in 1969; providing additional classrooms, science labs and a library for the school. The Field House was completed in 1963 as one of the largest on Long Island. The Field House is often used by village residents.

    The building stands tall on Stewart Avenue; many in town believe its magnificent architecture is what helps define Garden City's character. Village residents and the board have yet to reach consensus on what to use the building for. It is currently designated parkland and therefore requires home rule legislation for any kind of public use.

    The village board of trustees is currently exploring demolition of the Main Building and Ellis Hall.

    Visit the Garden City Historical Society and corresponding museum for a look back into the founding of Garden City. TheMore society exists primarily as a result of donations and volunteer work.
