  • Adelphi University

    In 1929, Adelphi University became the first private, coeducational institution of higher education on LongMore Island.

    Today, over 8,600 students take part in Adelphi University programs and on the sports fields at the main Garden City campus and at centers in New York City, Hauppauge and Poughkeepsie. 

    To ensure only the best for its students and faculty, Adelphi underwent a major renovation plan, upgrading its facilities and building, the 18,000 square foot Adele and Herbert J. Klapper Center for Fine Arts.

    In 2006, the university broke ground on an ambitious campus expansion project that added new Centers for Performing Arts and Recreation and Sports, an outdoor sports complex, the Alice Brown Early Learning Center and additional parking.

    Hofstra University is a private, nonsectarian university. About 12,400 full-time and part-time students attend theMore institution. The university is split up into a variety of colleges and schools, including the School of Communication, Hofstra University Honors College, Hofstra College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, School of Educatio, Health and Human Services and the School for University Studies. Hofstra is an active athletic institution, with programs in soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, softball and lacrosse. The university is home  to WRHU-FM (88.7) , the Hofstra Chronicle and a number of Greek societies such as Sigma Pi, Phi Delta Theta and Alpha Epsilon Phi.

    Nassau Community College (NCC), appropriately located at One Education Drive in Garden City, is a unit of the StateMore University of New York (SUNY) system.

    More than 22,000 day and evening students and almost 15,000 continuing and professional students come together at NCC's 225-acre campus in Garden City. With more than 60 fields of study, new classroom and laboratory space is planned to better serve the school community.

    NCC offers more than 60 degree and certificate programs, with over a thousand different courses from which to choose. Extra-curricular activities run the gamut, with 70 academic, cultural, religious, political and athletic clubs, activities and organizations to choose from. 

    Student athletes have access to one of the finest indoor (George B. Costigan Physical Education Complex) and outdoor (Mitchel Park Athletic Complex) facilities within the region.
