Stewart's wife, Lake Cornelia got its nickname, Hubbell's Pond, in honor of…More Garden City's first mayor, George Hubbell, who built houses along its shore for himself and his married children.</p> <p>The man-made pond dates back to the 1870s and is located on the Garden City Golf Club property off Stewart Avenue. It is possibly the result of early excavation efforts for the first Garden City Hotel.</p>
