The Nassau County Legislator lost in 2010 to the Democratic incumbent.
Nassau County Legis. Francis Becker recently announced that he will seek a congressional bid to New York's 4th district, two years after losing to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy in 2010. The Lynbrook resident still needs to gain the Republican nomination for the election - Becker will square off against Frank Scaturro, whom he defeated in 2010 for the nomination. Party primary elections are scheduled for June 26. “The overwhelming support I’ve received during the petitioning period has been tremendous. I’m extremely grateful to all my campaign volunteers, as well as each and every Committeeperson, who helped carry my designating petition throughout Nassau County,” Becker said. “We’re gaining the momentum we need to trounce my primary opponent and …

Mayor Don Brudie and trustees Laurence Quinn, John DeMaro and Dennis Donnelly submitted the following letter to the editor.
Each of us is currently serving on the village board of trustees. Although we are not running for election in the upcoming March 20 village election, we urge you to come and vote and support the Community Agreement candidates. We have all lived in the village for many years, from seven years to our whole lives. We, like you, are taxpayers and are concerned with taxes and costs. We all have children who have either been raised in the village or are now watching our children grow up here. We support the Community Agreement and the process put forth for close to 100 years in the selection of people to serve on our various board and commissions - not just the village board of trustees but also the recreation and cultural affairs board, the …

Voters lined up at Stratford and Stewart Schools to cast their ballot in the Estates, East.
Run-off elections for the East and Estates sections of Garden City kicked off late Tuesday afternoon with many voters heading out to the polls early. Lines started before the 4:30 p.m. start time at Stratford School, where Estates residents waited to cast their ballot for incumbent trustee Brian Daughney or challenger Michele Harrington. Voters gathered at Stewart School to vote in the race of incumbent trustee Nick Episcopia against challenger Jon Segerdahl. Priscilla Bonnie, a resident in the Estates section, said that the St. Paul’s issue was “absolutely” the deciding factor in casting her vote. “I don’t want anymore money put into St. Paul’s,” she said. “I mean we voted on this many times and I think unfortunately it is falling apart. …

It has been an honor to serve as your trustee for the last seven years. I remain committed to earning your trust and support, and truly believe that my first responsibility is to consider carefully each matter that comes before the board on its own merits before making any decision. I hope I can take a few minutes of your time to discuss the way I go about the work of being a trustee, and tell you some of the things I have been proud to accomplish during my six years on the board. As trustee, I have always sought to balance the need to preserve our necessary services and add programs and recreational facilities for all age groups with the equal need to minimize tax increases and ensure that projects and programs are delivered cost-…

I am supporting Nick Episcopia in his campaign to be re-elected as village trustee from the East. I asked him directly about the following, and on his behalf I feel it is necessary to make a couple of points crystal clear to everyone. Within the last week, Nick's personal email account has been hacked twice by an unknown party. In turn, this person has also created a fraudulent Facebook account under the name "Nicholas Episcopia" which Nick's campaign has managed to deactivate. This bogus Facebook profile is not to be confused with Nick's actual Facebook page (www.facebook.com/NickEpiscopia) which is run by his campaign volunteers. Establishing a fraudulent Facebook account is classified as "criminal impersonation" under the NYS penal code…

I have no issue with Becker but he has already had a shot at this. I will be voting for Frank Scaturro in the Republican primary. He is young and smart. Chaminade HS and Columbia University grad. Had a lot to do with getting the Grants Tomb monument in NYC renovated while he was only a college student, by forcing the feds to live up to their responsibilities. Now THAT is someone we need in …   more ›
