Field Hockey Volunteers at Ronald McDonald House

New York, N.Y. - Members of the Adelphi University field hockey team volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in New York City on Tuesday, Feb. 5, cooking pasta and preparing meals for families in need. Adelphi student-athletes cooked over 25 pounds of pasta and prepared meals to serve over 80 people at the charity.

"It was nice to see our team come together to do something for a good cause," said rising senior and team captain Jamie Ackerman. "With a community that supports our team and lets us do what we love, it was the least we could do. It was rewarding to see my teammates work hard out of our element to put together a dinner for these cancer patients and their families."

The field hockey team's efforts are part of Adelphi's unified mission to reach out to others in the community. Holding true to the ideals and mission of the College, the Adelphi Athletic Department and its student-athletes pride themselves on the community service and community outreach done by its staff and student-athletes as well as through camps and clinics offered by the coaches of the Department.

Ronald McDonald House New York provides a temporary “home-away-from-home” for pediatric cancer patients and their families.
The House is a supportive and caring environment which encourages and nurtures the development of child-to-child and parent-to-parent support systems. Ronald McDonald House New York is the largest facility of its type in the world.
