Men's Basketball Dropped at Le Moyne, 62-55

Box Score

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team fell victim to a late rally by Le Moyne College, dropping a 62-55 decision in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday. A tie game at halftime gave way to a 15-3 run by the Dolphins in the final five minutes, dropping the Panthers to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in NE-10 play. Le Moyne improves to 3-3 overall and 3-3 in the league.

For Adelphi, John Calarco scored a team-high 16 points on 7-10 shooting while grabbing six rebounds, and Ryan DeNicolarecorded a career-high 11 points while going a perfect 5-5 from the floor.

Le Moyne saw four players score in double figures, with Brian Zapisek and Nate Gause sharing the team lead with 12 points each. Nate Champion registered 11 points and secured a double-double with 10 assists, while Jim Janson scored 10 points.

The Panthers posted their second-best field goal percentage of the season, connecting on 23-45 shots (.511) compared to the hosts' 49 percent clip. Adelphi outrebounded the Dolphins 29-27 but could not overcome the late momentum swing that saw Le Moyne come out on top in the final minutes.

A tightly contested first half saw Adelphi take a two-point lead with 1:07 left after Anthony Libroia drained a pull-up three on a fast break, but Derrek Tartt laid in a last-second two-pointer to tie it up heading into halftime. The Panthers worked a five-point lead seven minutes into the second half, capped by a Calarco jumper that gave Adelphi a 34-29 lead.

The teams exchanged the lead three times over the next several minutes, but the Dolphins would take the lead for good after a Janson layup with four minutes to play. The Dolphins padded their lead with a 12-0 run that put the hosts up 59-47 with under a minute to go, and eight combined points by Calarco and Cliff Brown brought the Panthers within seven. Le Moyne would hold on, however, as a last-minute free throw sealed the Dolphin victory.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Philadelphia University in the first game of the two-day Adelphi Holiday Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
