Garden City Resident Receives President's Volunteer Service Award

Garden City resident Steven DeBold was among 55 Adelphi University freshman to receive the President's Volunteer Service Award, the most prestigious volunteer award associated with the White House.

The incoming freshmen were awarded Sunday by Long Island Volunteer Center Executive Director Diana O'Neill for their recent projects that benefited the Town of Hempstead, A. Holly Patterson Nursing Home, Garden City Bird Sanctuary and Jones Beach. Students, parents, community leaders, faculty, Adelphi University President Dr. Robert Scott and Mayor of Hempstead Wayne Hall were present.

The program, which is currently in its sixth year, was created by Associate Professor Della Hudson Tomlin to introduce the new students to their community and enhance civic engagement through volunteer work.
