"Viewpoints: Art of the Portrait" Reception

The artists in the group show, “Viewpoints: Art of the Portrait” had their reception on Sunday, May 6th at the Shelter Rock Public Library. Over 100 people came to see the show, talk to the artists and listen to live music by "Acoustic Dave" Kotliar. Delicious hors d'oeuvres and desserts were served.

Garden City artist, Suzie Alvey is in the show. During the reception she introduced the artists and commented on how talented the 16 artists are.

"This show is a tribute to Dan Slapo, who is a wonderful teacher.  The artists spent many hours creating these beautiful portraits and the newly-renovated gallery is a lovely place for our work to be displayed," said Alvey who organized the show.

The show features a contemporary realist exhibit of artists with their inspiration, Dan Slapo, Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America (PSA). Artists exhibiting are: Nicole Adamonis, Suzie Alvey, Andrea Attias, Christine Ballow, Peggy Bayern, Colleen Burns, Kathy Burns, Keeley Burns, Joe Leonardo, Sieglinde Lubbers, Bob Lubbers, Nadine McCluskey, Pat Quinn, Dan Slapo, Ted Scholl and Theodora Zavala. The show runs for two months, during May and June, through Tuesday, June 26th at the Shelter Rock Library. It can be viewed during regular library hours in the Gallery.

“Viewpoints” features work in oil paint, acrylic paint and pastel. Each artist has a unique viewpoint, both in realistic style and angle from which they are rendering their portrait from life.  Although they work from the same models, each artist has his or her own technique.

Although no work is for sale in this show, portrait commissions are accepted by the artists.

The Shelter Rock Library is located at 165 Searingtown Road, Albertson. For further information, please contact Suzie Alvey at 516.326.1720 or suziealvey@gmail.com.
