Garden City Resident to be Honored

Kathryn Driscoll Hopkins to receive the 2013 Lawrence E. Elovich Leadership Award.

Kathryn Driscoll Hopkins, chief clerk of Nassau County Supreme Court, has been chosen by the Long Beach Lawyers’ Association as the recipient of the 2013 Lawrence E. Elovich Leadership Award.

The prestigious award will be presented at the organization’s annual dinner and awards ceremony on June 11 at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach. The award is presented each year to an individual who, through actions and deeds, has consistently demonstrated extraordinary leadership and service to others; a person who exemplifies the high standards of the legal profession and promotes access to justice.

“In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, Kathy Hopkins, like all great leaders, rose to the challenge by tirelessly working to establish communication between the Nassau County Supreme Court and the City of Long Beach,” said Corey Klein, president of the Long Beach Lawyers’ Association. “Mrs. Hopkins was instrumental in assisting with relief efforts for the residents of Long Beach and ensuring uninterrupted access to the Nassau Court System.”

Kathryn Driscoll Hopkins, a graduate of St. John’s University School of Law, was appointed chief clerk of the Supreme Court in 2002. Prior to her appointment as chief clerk, Mrs. Hopkins served as principal law clerk to the Honorable Edward G. McCabe, former administrative Judge of Nassau County.

Mrs. Hopkins oversees the day-to-day operation of the Supreme Court in Nassau County, which receives more than 18,000 filings each year. Mrs. Hopkins resides in Garden City with her husband, Michael Hopkins, a partner in the law firm of Hopkins and Kopilow.

Also being honored is the Hon. Jonathan Lippman, chief judge of the State of New York.

The Long Beach Lawyers' Association was established in the 1930's. Lawyers and judges who share affiliation with the Long Beach Community created the Long Beach Lawyers' Association. It serves as a vital component of Nassau County's legal community. The Association offers access to meaningful and exciting events, educational programs and professional opportunities, all taking part in a cordial and welcoming atmosphere.
