The top five things you need to know April 28:

1. Residents Defeat St. Paul's Bond Referendum: Residents overwhelmingly defeated the St. Paul's bond referendum Wednesday. Read the full report and community reaction today on Patch.

2. : The Recreation Department is running the local section of Aquafina’s Pitch, Hit and Run Competition at 4 p.m. at Grove Park. This competition is free and incorporates baseball skills on a 60-foot field. Winners will compete against other Long Island winners on a later date.

3. Music of the 19th Century: Baritone Frank Hendricks and singer/pianist Linda Pratt will perform songs and compositions from the mid-19th century during a 2 p.m. performance at the Garden City Library. Come on down and sing along on many of the choruses.

4. Faith and Football: Former New York Jets lineman Marty Lyons will visit Adelphi at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hall to talk about his career and faith journey before, during, and after his time in the NFL. Event is open to the public. General admission is $5 per person; tickets can be reserved by calling 516-877-3116 or emailing AdelphiNewman@gmail.com.

5. Arbor Day Fest at GC Bird Sanctuary: The Garden City Bird Sanctuary's annual Arbor Day Fest is scheduled for April 30 from 1-3 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring annuals (plants) for restoration of the site ecology. The winner of the 2011 Garden City Middle School sixth grade environmental essay contest will be announced and the 2011 Garden City Bird Sanctuary Environmental Stewardship Award presented.
