Updated: Early Dismissals, Closures and Cancellations

Garden City is expected to get slammed with more than a foot of snow as the second major storm of 2014 hits.

As Garden City stands ready to take on another winter snowstorm, local businesses, colleges and schools are announcing early dismissals, closures and/or cancellations.

Here's what we know so far:

Roosevelt Field Mall: Roosevelt Field Mall is closing at 4:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 21.

St. Anne's HSA Meeting: The St. Anne's School Home School Association meeting has been cancelled for Tuesday evening.

Garden City Recreation: The entire Community Park tennis facility will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Contract times will be made up later in the season. Further,  all recreation classes are cancelled Tuesday and the St. Paul's Field House is closed so open gym for middle and high schoolers and team practices are cancelled. 

Garden City Public Schools: All after-school activities, including athletics, have been cancelled for Tuesday, Jan. 21. The after-school child care program, however, is still in session.

Saint Joseph School: the basketball game vs. St. Aidan Tuessay, Jan. 21. is cancelled. The FLASH Program (Mad Science) is also cancelled. This class will be made up.

Waldorf School:

  • All after-school and evening activities, games, practices and clubs for Grades 1-12 have been cancelled for Tuesday, Jan. 21.
  • Nursery and Kindergarten classes will be dismissed at the regular noon dismissal time. The Afternoon Care Program for Nursery and Kindergarten is OPEN; however, parents who can pick-up their children at the earliest possible time are encouraged to do so.
  • Regular classes for Grades 1 through 12 will operate until the normal 3:20 p.m. dismissal time; however, parents and guardians concerned about weather and driving conditions can pick up their children at any time today.
  • Staff will remain at the school until all children have been picked-up. 

Adelphi University: The Garden City campus will close Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. due to winter weather conditions. For a list of Radio and TV stations that carry school closing information, visit the University Closings page.

Nassau Community College: All classes, including online classes, and activities that begin at 2:30 p.m. or later at Nassau Community College are cancelled Tuesday, Jan. 21. Campus services, other than Public Safety and Physical Plant will also be cancelled. On Wednesday, Jan. 22, all classes, including online classes, and activities that begin at 2 p.m. or later will resume.

EPOA Resident Electors' Meeting: The Eastern Property Owners' Association has rescheduled tonight's resident electors' meeting for next Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Stewart School.

CPOA Resident Electors' Meeting: The Central Property Owners' Association resident electors' meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 21, has been cancelled. An alternate date has not yet been set.

WPOA Resident Electors' Meeting: The Western Property Owners' Association has rescheduled tonight's resident electors' meeting for next Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Homestead School.

Estates POA Resident Electors' Meeting: The Property Owners' Association of Garden City Estates has rescheduled tonight's resident electors' meeting to Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 8 p.m. at Stratford School.

Hofstra University: Hofstra University will be closed as of 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21. Classes are cancelled, the library will be closed and university offices will be closed. For more info, click here.
