Garden City Turkey Trot 2012 & Earth Run II

Literally thousands participated in the 2012 Garden City Turkey Trot, with many donating much needed supplies to help Hurricane Sandy victims.  The streets, many still showing the remains of downed trees and damage from the hurricane and following "northeaster" snow storm, were lined with supporters.  Water, bananas, energy bars, and bagels were provided to all. The Field House was crowded with volunteers, including our Village "Attorney" Gerard Fishberg.  The local GC Fire Department & police were on hand as well as volunteer EMT's in case.
People ran or walked with their kids, their dogs or pushed strollers.  Thousands of dollars were raised to help charities & causes.
Sunday April 21, 2013, another race is scheduled - EARTH RUN II, a five kilometer race starting at the nonprofit Tanners Pond Environmental Center opposite 181 Tanners Pond Road. In addition, a 1-1/2K obstacle run will be held, and there is already a Boy Scout Eagle project in the works to expand the obstacles from last year's successful initial run.  You can view a short film of last year's race through a link on the Garden City Bird Sanctuary website; at www.gcbirdsanctuary.org   Planning is in progress for another great Garden City tradition.  Happy Thanksgiving!
