Great Show put on by GC High School Marching Band!

The Garden City High School Marching Band had an exciting weekend with two competitions. On Saturday at Walt Whitman high school they were part of a 14 band show and placed 2nd in the Large Band Division. On Sunday they took 1st place in the USSBA Group III, Open Division at Manhasset high school. The Marching Band and Color Guard consists of sixty-eight 8th – 12th grade students lead by music teacher Mr. Psenicka. This year’s show is called War – The full 12 minute performance presents a story which pits the Marching Band against the Color Guard.  After some captures and battles victory for one side prevails. The Band sounds great and the theatrics put to music make it very entertaining.   For parents of Middle Schoolers with children in the band program, this is a great way for your children to see the marching band in action.  While the band performs at home football games, the limited time during half time only allows them to run through ¼ of their show.  You really need to see the whole show to appreciate all the hours of practice put into it.  They will be at local competitions this coming weekend. Saturday evening at Tully field in NHP under the stadium lights and Sunday the 22nd the band will be competing in the US Bands NY State championships at Hofstra University - James Shuart  Stadium. Come out and support Garden City and see a great show!
