Scenes from Breezy Point three months after Sandy hit.
Scenes from Breezy Point three months after Sandy hit.
Last Sunday we visited some families who we have chosen to help from Breezy Point. It was heartbreaking to see the devastation. One thing is for sure, these people REALLY NEED HELP! The family whose home we hope to rebuild didn't complain or feel sorry for themselves, they feel blessed that they are alive and thankful the young father of four was able to help pull neighbors out of their burning homes to safety.

"Breezy people" are all about helping others and most dedicate their lives to service so let's show them some love and help the ones who help others. This particular family is not looking for handouts, they wish to work alongside us; they are overwhelmed by the generosity of all of you helping us help them! The damage in Breezy is unfathomable, I will post pics each week, we cannot forget about these people.

We know a great way to warm up TONIGHT, enjoy great food/drinks and help some people at the same time! PROST, the new German bistro and bar (652 Franklin Av, GC, 427-5215) diagonally across the street from the High Top Shop, will be raising money for the Breezy Point Disaster Relief Fund. There is no cover charge, just come and enjoy one of the many beers or other libations, they also have great food too. There will be live music after 8 p.m. and a portion of the proceeds will benefit this worthy 501(c)3. Many of our volunteers plan to go after work today, we hope to see you! Check out their webpage:  http://breezypointdisasterrelief.org/ See you at PROST tonight!

High Top Shop hours: Monday-Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.; Sunday closed.

just reading Jane Goodall with my son for school and came across this quote of an amazing womanRead More "every individual matters, every individual has a role to play, every individual makes a difference." that is what makes our nation, our village so great everyone has an opinion whether we agree with it or not. It just saddens me to think some may not voice their opinion in the future because of the rather harsh comments which I'm sure were just meant to get a point across rather than be hurtful. Garden City residents are not afraid to get involved, to stand up for what they believe in and I am proud to live here.

Thank you GcSupporter#2 I love quotes! tells so much about the person and their beliefs and life...IRead More had to look up Principal Joe Clark after that....definitely a man I'd like to learn more about. I always try to use quotes with my children and their school work - I think the spoken and written word of others is so important!
