Historical Society Celebrates Christmas

The Garden City Historical Society opened its Museum doors to welcome guests to its annual Christmas gathering on Sunday, December 9th. Flickering red candles, a Christmas tree adorned with Victorian-style ornaments and holiday decorations set the mood.
Guests enjoyed Christmas carols sung by four talented Garden City High School students, led by choral director Sarah Toca, and music provided by Historical Society member George Efthimou. Refreshments included Christmas punch made with a special recipe and tasty hors d'oeuvres prepared and served by Culinary Heights.   Albert Intreglia, president of The Garden City Historical Society, thanked the guests for attending and supporting the nonprofit organization through their memberships, as well as donations and pledges to the Society’s ongoing capital campaign.
Among those attending were New York State Senator Kemp Hannon and his wife Bronwyn, and Village of Garden City Deputy Mayor and Western Section Trustee John Watras.   Traditionally, the Historical Society honors its A. T. Stewart Exchange volunteers at its Christmas party. President Intreglia introduced Exchange Founder and Director Kris Harder and co-chairs Martha Derderian and Maryann Caterino who distributed gifts to their 20 volunteers.
"Our volunteers work tirelessly to present an inviting shop, great merchandise at fair prices, and a wonderful shopping experience," said Mrs. Caterino.
Upcoming 2013 Historical Society events include a Spring Capital Campaign Gala honoring Deputy Mayor John Watras; former Garden City Village Trustee and past president of the Historical Society, Maureen Clancy; and A.T. Stewart Exchange Executive Director Kris Harder.
The Society’s consignment shop, the A. T. Stewart Exchange (516.746.8900), located on the lower level of the Museum, is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. For information about the Society, please visit gardencityhistoricalsociety.org
