The top five things you need to know June 23:

1. Prom Safety Tips: With Garden City High School's pre-prom and prom tonight, the Garden City Police Department is offering prom night safety tips. Check back at 10 a.m. to find out what the department believes both parents and teens can do to ensure the night is a memorable one for all.

2. Library to Host Songwriting Workshop for YAs: Join Kathy Moser, songwriter, performer, teacher and social artist, as she conducts a songwriting workshop July 12 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Cluett Hall. Register beginning June 29 at www.gardencitypl.org. This program is limited to 50 Young Adults (YAs) so register early. All ‘tweens and teens must have their own library card to register.

3. Class of 2011 Prom: Garden City High School seniors are gearing up for pre-prom and prom festivities! Garden City Patch wishes all attendees a memorial evening! Send your prom photos to carisa@patch.com.

4. Host a Mini Golf Birthday Party: Did you know Community Park offers special birthday party or group packages for 10 or more at the village's 18-hole mini golf course? For parties or group information or reservations, visit Community Park’s office next to the mini golf area or call 516-483-2525.

5. Celebrate the 4th of July in Style: Mark your calendar for the Garden City Hotel's first ever  on the patio June 30 and celebrate the nation's birthday in style. Enjoy fresh seasonal food and cocktails for $35 per person. (Rain date July 1).
