Onyx Equities LLC, a leading private real estate investment, development and management firm, has purchased the Atria West, a 235,000 square foot, Class-A office building in Garden City, and has appointed The Rochlin Organization of Jericho as its exclusive leasing agent, Rochlin announced today. The deal, one of the largest office transactions of 2012 on Long Island, closed Dec. 19.

Onyx, of Woodbridge, NJ, will soon begin a capital program to upgrade the public areas of the Atria West, which is also known as 900 Stewart Avenue.  Architect Marc Spector, a principal of the Spector Group, which designed the building, is designing the renovations.    “We are excited about the opportunity to acquire a preeminent office building in Garden City,” said Jared Minatelli, senior vice president of asset management at Onyx.

Atria West, the gateway to the Mitchel Field office park, is conveniently located close to the Meadowbrook Parkway and other major highways and Roosevelt Field Shopping Center.

"The strategic central Nassau County location of 900 Stewart Avenue makes it a perfect location for businesses seeking quality space in a prestigious building,” Rochlin said, “We are pleased that Onyx has called on The Rochlin Organization to serve as its leasing agent.” Currently there are 77,452 square feet available for lease,

Onyx purchased the building from CAF Realty, which acquired the building in 2008 from Brookfield Asset Management, of Toronto.  The six-story building was constructed in 1986 for Lincoln Equities Group, formerly in Brooklyn, and Met Life as one of the first of many new buildings at the former Mitchel Field air base. It was soon was sold to JPMorgan Chase, which until recently had occupied the entire building.

The Atria West features a metal panel exterior of green reflective glass and a 180-foot-long, 50-foot-high atrium. Its amenities include an on-site cafe, management office, outdoor seating and tables, 24/7 access, and ample parking with 65 percent covered. A NICE bus stop (N45) is located directly in front of the building.   Current occupants include JP Morgan Chase and AT&T.
