Question of the Day: Is the Police Department Adequately Enforcing Speed Limits in Garden City?

Department is filling vacancies to get more officers out on patrol.

Several residents at village board meetings and through comments posted on Garden City Patch are concerned with the high rate of traffic through the village. Some say the police department isn't doing enough to enforce Garden City's speed limits and nab violators, especially on Clinton Road and Washington Avenue.

Commissioner Ernest Cipullo said the department is operating with seven vacancies and has for more than a year. He also said that officers issued more than 8,000 summonses on the aforementioned roadways alone since the beginning of 2010.
