Trustees of the Robert J. Reeves IV Scholarship, with Men's Association president Pete Haefner and the Reeves family, presented the second annual grant to Kim Ryan and Michael Lofrese.
Trustees of the Robert J. Reeves IV Scholarship
Fund chose Kimberly Ryan and Michael Lofrese from a competitive pool of applicants from Garden City
High School's Class of 2012.
Their success in the classroom, on the athletic
field and in their extracurricular activities is commendable, and in the
committee’s view, representative of Bobby Reeves’ accomplishments and spirit.
Ryan just finished her first semester at Gettysburg
College and is continuing her athletic career as a point guard on the basketball
team. Lofrese completed his first semester at Trinity College and
is a member of the wrestling team.
The scholarship is funded by the Robert J. Reeves IV Foundation and awarded
in coordination with The Men's Association (TMA). The scholarship was created in memory of Bobby
Reeves, a member of Garden City High School's Class of 1999. Mr. Reeves was a rare
and colorful person; he was a gifted athlete, a strong performer in the
classroom and was selected funniest person by his class. Upon graduation, he
went on to Dartmouth
College, where he played
football all four years. After college he played Arena League Football
before beginning a career on Wall Street.
The group put together a committee
of former Garden City student-athletes and friends of Bobby to review the
numerous applicants and ultimately make the selection each year.
The selection
committee consists of Dan Doherty (’00), Brian Harrington (’97),
Michael Harrington (’96), Bill Sebring (’99), Dan Smith (’99), Tom Weille (’00) and The Reeves
Family ’99, ’01, ’05, ’08. A special
thanks to advisors and Garden City High School coaches Tom Flatley and Steve
Finnell.
Bob Reeves is a past president and current life
director of the TMA and continues to support the efforts of the TMA in giving
back to the student-athletes of Garden City. In creating the scholarship
with the help of Bobby’s friends and schoolmates, the Reeves family is hoping
that the spirit and enthusiasm that Bobby brought to everything he did in life
is carried forward in his name.
All current seniors at Garden City High School interested in applying for the scholarship should see their respective
guidance counselors for the next distribution of the Reeves Scholarship, which
will be awarded at this time next year.
For
those wishing to make a donation please make your checks payable to the Robert
J. Reeves IV Scholarship Fund or to the TMA and mark "Robert J Reeves IV
Scholarship Fund" in the memo field. Checks can be sent to Bob Reeves, 119 Stratford Ave. or to the TMA, P.O. Box 666, Garden
