State Reopens Long Island Parkways North of Montauk Highway

The New York State Police reopened Long Island's major highways north of Merrick Road/Montauk Highway on Tuesday after trees downed by Hurricane Sandy prompted road closures.

The Southern State, Northern State, Meadowbrook, Wantagh, Sagtikos/Sunken Meadow, Robert Moses, and Bethpage parkways were all opened at noon, though they remain closed south of Merrick Road/Montauk Highway.

Ocean Parkway and Loop Parkway remain closed.

Downed trees still block many minor roadways in towns and villages across Long Island.
