Things & Stuff Closing Its Doors in September: A visibly emotional Dean and Teresa Adams welcomed shoppers into Things & Stuff Tuesday morning, many of whom were shocked to see a huge pink sign in the storefront's window that reads, "Store Closing. Thanks For The Memories...We Bid You A Fond Farewell."

John Wilton: Friday Night Promenade Gaining Momentum: Friday night promenades in Garden City may finally be catching on as the initiative - intended to help local merchants during the sluggish summer months - approached its sixth week.

Garden City Resident Jessica Faith Yoo Pays It Forward: Jessica Faith Yoo was so moved by the devastation supersorm Sandy left in her wake that she immediately jumped at the chance to help those who lost so much, including her Spanish teacher Billy Kupferman.

Five Longest Garden City Chamber Members: The five longest members of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce are still in business in the village.

Crime Blotter: Drunk Driver Flees Accident: Officers responded to a report of an accident on Meadow Street where a vehicle struck two trees and a fire hydrant. Witnesses state that the operator of the vehicle fled the scene on foot in a westerly direction. Officer Punch searched the area and discovered the subject, a male 23-year-old from Hempstead, on Cedar Place in Garden City. As a result of the investigation, the operator was arrested for DWI (.12 percent blood alcohol content), unlicensed operation and leaving the scene of an accident.

National Night Out: Making Garden City An Even Safer Place to Live: The Garden City Police Department, along with staff of the Garden City Recreation Department, conducted a community program titled National Night Out” at Garden City Community Park Tuesday.

Another Academic Record for Garden City Students: The College Board recently released the results of students sitting for Advanced Placement (AP) exams and students at Garden City High School bested themselves in virtually every category, according to school district officials.

Bonilla Removed from Town Clerk Post: Mark Bonilla was asked to vacate his post as Hempstead Town Clerk by the end of the business day Thursday after being found guilty on one count of official misconduct in July.

NCC Awarded $1M to Increase Opportunities in Nursing Program: The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Nassau Community College’s program for Nursing Workforce Diversity (NCCNWD) $1.045 million in grant money to increase educational opportunities at the two-year college.
