You Call the Game: Let’s Talk Garden City Sports: As summer ends and school begins, so do some of your favorite sports, like high school football, which began this week.

West Nile Treatment Rescheduled Due to Weather: To help combat the spread of West Nile virus, localized truck treatment of adulticide in targeted areas throughout the county, including the village of Garden City and sections of E. Garden City, was to take place Thursday evening beginning at 8 p.m. Inclement weather, however, pushed the treatment to Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Blood Drive at Firefighters Museum: The Long Island Volunteer Center (LIVC) teamed up with the Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center to host a blood drive Sept. 9 at the museum to commemorate Sept. 11, 2001 as a day of remembrance.

Garden City Resident Helps Mark Milestone for Winthrop: The new Winthrop University Hospital Diabetes Research Facility held its “topping out” ceremony Monday afternoon. Garden City resident Charles Strain, chairman of Winthrop's board of directors, was among numerous state and local officials and hospital personnel who signed the white ceremonial I-beam before it was put into place on the Second Street side of the building’s second floor.

Cops: Bronx Man Responsible for Vehicle Larcenies: A Bronx man was arrested for numerous larcenies from vehicles in the village in August and September, according to Garden City police.

Crime Blotter: Jewelry Thief Nabbed, Struck Overpass: Officer Reilly, while assigned to a school crossing detail on Sept. 10, observed a male 31-year-old from Hempstead driving a truck northbound on Cherry Valley Avenue when he disregarded bridge height clearance signs before striking the Cherry Valley train trestle.

Solemn Ceremony Marks 9/11 Anniversary In Garden City: A ceremony at the village's 9/11 memorial Wednesday marked the twelfth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Petra’s Promise: Oktoberfest Fundraiser: Garden City mom Petra Dehler suffered a debilitating stroke last spring. In the true spirit of friends helping friends, a fundraiser will be held on Petra’s behalf Saturday, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at 58 Third Street in Garden City.

Hundreds Gather for Seaside 9/11 Ceremony: Holding American flags, white carnations, and at times, the hands of others, hundreds gathered at Town Park in Point Lookout to commemorate the 12-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on Wednesday.

Eisenhower Park Tribute Remembers Those Lost on Sept. 11: Nassau County residents gathered at Eisenhower Park Sunday to remember those lost as a result of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. 

NCC Adjunct’s Union Hits Picket Line: Nassau Community College adjuncts went on strike Monday after the college's board of trustees rejected a proposed contract settlement that called for wage increases of 4.9 percent every year for eight years.

Court Order: Stop Picketing and Get Back to Work: Members of the Adjunct Faculty Association at Nassau Community College had to stop picketing and get back to work as per a court order handed down Tuesday. AFA president Charles Loiacono told Patch that members were not complying with the injunction.

First Day of School Goes Off Without A Hitch: A photo gallery of Garden City public school students on the first day of school. The district welcomed nearly 4,000 K-12 students as another academic year kicked off in the village.

Aggressive Driving Enforcement Detail Coincides With Schools Opening: Between Sept. 3-10, the Garden City Police Department conducted an aggressive driving enforcement detail to coincide with the beginning of the school season.

Suozzi Wins Primary, Targets Mangano: Four years after he was stunningly defeated by Ed Mangano, former County Executive Tom Suozzi will get his chance at revenge after defeating Adam Haber in the Democratic primary on Tuesday night.

Museum Dedicates Fire Truck to Fallen 9/11 Firefighters: The Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center unveiled a new fire truck Wednesday dedicated to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Chamber to Present Candidates for County Exec: At the Garden City Chamber of Commerce’s season kick-off luncheon program Sept. 25, nominees for Nassau County executive - incumbent Ed Mangano and Democrat Tom Suozzi, who bested Adam Haber in Tuesday's primary, will serve as keynote speakers.

Muscarella Family to Receive Vision of Hope Award: The Muscarellas of Garden City will receive the 2013 Vision of Hope Award during Voices Against Brain Cancer's Sept. 22 "Run For Rob" charitable run/walk. Paul Muscarella passed away in 2010 from a malignant brain tumor, and is survived by his wife and four children.

Honestly Delicious Comes to GC: Honestly Delicious Cafe & Bakery has opened their doors for business at 61 New Hyde Park Road. They have replaced Cupcake Corner, which sold baked goods for four years.

'Thunder Dog' Author Visits Adelphi: A man saved by his guide dog on Sept. 11, 2001 shared his story at Adelphi University Monday.
