West End merchants will usher in the holiday season Friday with its annual tree lighting ceremony, resurrected two years ago after an approximate decade-long hiatus.
Festivities kick off at 5 p.m. in the small park on Plattsdale
Road, next to Garden City Dental Associates. The park, which was recently refurbished by local Boy Scout Christopher Stumpf, a member of Troop 56 here in Garden City, and dedicated to U.S. veterans, now serves as a passive place for
residents, merchants and shoppers alike to reflect and relax.
Santa Claus will also make a special appearance to help flip the switch on the 2012 holiday season. The Western Property Owners' Association (WPOA) has purchased new lights for the Christmas tree, which will illuminate the West End's business district.
