Winning Belmont Posters on Display at Village Hall
Mary Foxen, James Trocchia and Maeve Doherty earn win, place and show respectively.
Winners of the eighth annual children's poster contest, revealed each year at the Garden City Belmont Stakes Festival, are now on display at Garden City Village Hall.
2013 Winners:
Win: 11-year-old Mary Foxen, Stewart School
Place: 5-year-old James (Jimmy) Trocchia, Hemlock School
Show: 8-year-old Maeve Doherty, Stratford School
Garden City children have the opportunity to show their love of horse racing by taking part in the contest. Participants, residents of Garden City currently enrolled in Grades K-6, are encouraged to submit images of thoroughbred racing.
The top three winners were awarded cash prizes from Sunflower Fine Art.
The posters are displayed in store windows along Seventh Street and Franklin Avenue on the afternoon of the festival, which was rescheduled this year from June 7 to June 28 due to inclement weather.
