Closures, Delayed Openings and Cancellations as GC Digs Out

Both garbage and recycling collection are canceled Friday so that "full efforts on snow removal can be made."

As Garden City digs out of nearly 8 inches of snow thanks to Winter Storm Hercules, local businesses, colleges and schools continue to announce delayed openings, limited services, closures and cancellations.

Here's a rundown of what we know:

Isabella's Boutique: Isabella's Boutique is closed Friday in Garden City. Normal store hours will resume Saturday.

Garden City Public Library: The Garden City Public Library will open at 1 p.m. Friday with limited services.

Garbage and Recycling Pickup: Due to current weather conditions both garbage and recycling collection are canceled Friday so that "full efforts on snow removal can be made," according to an alert on the village's website.

Garden City School Offices: All Garden City public school offices are closed Friday. Students are still enjoying the holiday break and are not due back until Monday, Jan. 6.

Roosevelt Field Mall: Roosevelt Field Mall will open at noon Friday.

Honestly Delicious: Honestly Delicious on New Hyde Park Road is running on a two-hour delay Friday but will be serving up hot cocoa - chocolate and white chocolate; hot coffee and tea; cupcakes; muffins and crumb cake.

Cathedral of the Incarnation: The office is closed Friday and will re-open on Monday.

Saint Joseph School: School is closed on Friday, Jan. 3.

Saint Anne's School: Saint Anne's School will be closed on Friday, Jan. 3, and will re-open on Monday, Jan. 6.

Adelphi University: The Adelphi University Garden City campus, Hauppauge and Manhattan Centers closed Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and will remain closed on Friday.

Nassau Community College: All classes, including activities, campus services other than public safety and physical plant at Nassau Community College were cancelled for Thursday evening and Friday day and evening.

A New Leaf: A New Leaf will close at 6 p.m. Thursday due to the impending storm. Check the store's Facebook page for any delay of opening on Friday.

BODY30: The 6 a.m. bootcamp scheduled for Friday at 6 a.m. is cancelled.

Garden City Recreation: Due to the impending winter storm the following programs, facilities and hours of operation have been changed:

  • St. Paul's Cluett Hall and Field House: The facility will be closed all day Friday.
  • Community Park Tennis Center and Platform: The entire facility will be closed all day Friday and will re-open Saturday. Contract times will be made up later in the season. 
  • Roller Hockey Rink: The rink will be closed until further notice.
  • Holiday Gym Program: The holiday gym program is cancelled for Friday.

Sacred Heart Academy: Due to the impending storm Red/Gold has been moved to Sunday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. at Hofstra. Doors will open at 2 p.m. Due to Hofstra events, security asks that you do not line up before 2 p.m. Participants Report at noon.

Whitehall Dental Arts (www.whitehalldentalarts.com) at 520 Franklin Ave is open for business as usual. We do have a couple of openings due to weather related cancellations, so give us a call at 516 554 3346 if you want to come in for a cleaning and check up or emergency.
