Being snowed in offers the perfect opportunity to cozy up on the couch and watch movies. What better way to stay off the local roads than to watch movies shot right here on Long Island? We found the following readily available on Amazon Instant Video and Netflix.

“The Godfather” – The abandoned runway was shot in Mitchel Field, now part of Nassau Community College, according toMoviesFilmedOnLongisland.com.Other shots feature Falaise, part of the Guggenheim Estate at Sands Point Preserve, including the scene where a horse’s head was found in Jack Woltz’s bed.  

“Citizen Kane” – Long Island shots include aerial views of Huntington’s Oheka Castle to showcase Xanadu, the fictional estate of Charles Foster Kane, according to MoviesFilmedOnLongIsland.com.

“The Brothers McMullen” – the film written, directed and starring Long Island’s own Edward Burns – features shots of the Valley Stream home where Burns grew up, as well as scenes of the nearby Gibson Long Island Rail Road station.

The Fitzgerald Family Christmas," another Ed Burns film, includes scenes of the Irish Pub and Grill in Lynbrook on Stauderman Avenue.

“Arthur,” the film starring Dudley Moore, includes scenes from Old Bethpage Village, The Knole Estate (built for Herman Duryea) in Old Westbury, and Caumsett Estate in Lloyd Harbor, according to MoviesFilmedOnLongIsland.com.

“Goodfellas,” the Martin Scorsese film starring Robert DeNiro and Ray Liotta, features shots of Catalina Beach Club in Atlantic Beach, a home in Lawrence, and areal shots of Oyster Bay and Valley Stream, says MoviesFilmedOnLongIsland.com.

“Metropolitan,” the indie film about a group of privileged private school students during debutant season, includes shots of Southampton, says IMBD.

“Endless Love,” the film starring Brooke Shields, features aerial views of Sea Cliff, according to MoviesFilmedOnLongIsland.com.

“Trading Places,” starring Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy, was shot at Mill Neck Manor, according to MoviesFilmedOnLongIsland.com.

“Commandments,” starring Aidan Quinn and Courtney Cox, includes an aerial view of Montauk, according to MoviesFilmedOnLongIsland.com.

“The Forgotten,” starring Julianne Moore and Dominic West, includes an aerial shot of Hmpton Bays, says MoviesFilmedOnLongIsland.com.
