Check Out What's Brewing On Seventh Street

A New Leaf Tea Emporium Is Open For Business

If you’re hankering for a spot of tea your search is over. A New Leaf Tea Emporium is now open for business. The shop boasts an abundant array of over 45 varieties of fine black, oolong, and green loose-leaf teas as well as rooibos (roy-boss), fruit and herb infusions.

A New Leaf brings an international flair to Garden City. Founder Kimberly Orlic was inspired by her many visits to Europe. Her husband hails from Croatia and during their travels they admired the tea houses they visited. Orlic, a former Hofstra University public relations executive, developed the idea for the tea house ten years ago when she was pursuing her MBA. As part of her coursework she wrote a business plan for the tea house and has worked tirelessly to create the finest tea experience.

Patrons can enjoy a wide variety of different types of teas either iced or hot including flavors such as Provence, Jasmine Jade, Sencha Kyoto Cherry Rose and Applespice. Orlic is even offering a Garden City blend which features pineapple, rose hip and hibiscus petals. For those seeking a little caffeine, a tea blend called Awaken is blended with green tea, coconut, white chocolate and coffee beans. All teas are certified organic.

Whether you’re a tea connoisseur or a beginner, Orlic and her staff can offer guidance along with a little history and education about each of the teas.

The center of the shop features a European inspired tea table displaying an intriguing mix of seasonal teas. Tea can be enjoyed in the shop or purchased to brew at home. A 50 gram bag of tea costs $7.50 netting 20-25 cups of tea. Pastries and tea accessories are also available for purchase.

“When people think about tea, they tend to limit themselves to tea bags,” said Orlic. “Tea done right is a different experience and it’s a relative bargain.”

Orlic has designed a very inviting and relaxing atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating is available along with complimentary wireless internet connection.

On a recent afternoon Garden City resident Judy Courtney, an avid tea drinker, came in to sample some tea.

“This is a great addition to Seventh Street,” said Courtney. “It’s something different and special.”

John Mitchell, a Merrill Lynch employee, also admired the tea offerings adding how much better loose tea tastes versus coffee.

Orlic plans on hosting small parties for special occasions such as showers and children’s birthday parties. She also plans on serving low tea consisting of sweets, scones, finger sandwiches, tarts and cookies. Tea tastings which are similar to wine tastings will also be held for patrons who want a more in depth tea experience.

A New Leaf Tea Emporium is located at 152 Seventh Street. For further information, visit  www.anewleafteaco.com or call 516-506-7575.
