Holiday Shopping in Garden City

Village shops run the gamut of gift choices.

The holiday season is in full swing in Garden City's business district with display windows enticing shoppers to step inside with lots of sales and special gifts for friends and family.

There are a number of stores that have a beautiful assortment. Here are a few of them:

A New Leaf: Dean and Kimberly Orlic opened A New Leaf in September. A big seller for Christmas is their gift box of three tins of tea that total 50 grams. They also have smaller sizes and personalized baskets available. There are exotic teas in the shop, including "Garden City Blend." There are 60 varieties with seasonal teas on the menu that include: "Hot Sweet Cinnamon" black tea, "Holiday Berry" green tea and "White Christmas" white tea.

Edible Arrangements: Hanukkah and Christmas choices abound at Edible Arrangements, with gourmet fruit selections that have dove-shaped pineapples dipped in white chocolate, star-shaped pineapples and gingerbread man-shaped pineapples dipped in chocolate. Other arrangements have apples or strawberries dipped in chocolate. The store is family owned, with same-day delivery for all gifts.

Feldis Florists: Feldis has 36 arrangements for the holidays, including these specials: "Garden City Evergreen Arrangement," "Garden City Christmas Vase" and "Garden City Christmas Centerpiece." Sending to someone outside Garden City? How about the "Long Island Gourmet Basket" or the "New York Poinsettia Basket" with lush flowers?

The Pear Tree Shoppe: The whole Pear Tree shop is decked out for Christmas with Thymes Frasier Fir aromatic candles, live topiary, decorative items, Christmas ornaments for every age, platters for the table, Christmas pillows, sweaters and every Christmas item you can think of in glittery silver and gold, as well as the traditional green and red colors.

Devonshire Home Design: Devonshire is a full interior design store filled with fine home furnishings, decorative accessories and gifts. From now until Dec. 29 there is a 20 percent off sale on all holiday items, tabletop accessories, pillows and throws. Some holiday items include nutcrackers, a variety of glam and nature- oriented candles and Santa decorations. From Kurt Adler they have nutcracker ornaments and Christmas bulbs.

The Cupcake Corner: Dubbed as the "whimsical cafe" and bakery, the Cupcake Corner always has luscious cupcakes. For the holidays it has eggnog-flavored cupcakes and Christmas candies. Upcoming events include "Breakfast with Santa," snowman/snowflake crafts, gingerbread decorating and party packages.

Sugar & Spice Culinary Arts: A few doors down from the Cupcake Corner is Sugar and Spice Culinary Arts. Owner, Vivian Flood remarked, "We have a special right now with three courses for $50 each with a special hands-on aspect or a demonstration. We've had many different groups here, including several bunko groups and businesses who have come to us for Christmas parties." They have two holiday workshops during the Christmas vacation too.
