Opening in 1932 at 180 Seventh Street, Hoffmann's was the oldest store in the same location on Seventh Street, according to village historian John Ellis Kordes. "Oscar Hoffmann came from Hempstead. The store first originated in Hempstead and moved to Garden City," he said, "and changed ownership several times though they kept the name."

The deli was well known for its signature sandwiches, including the popular "Godfather."
