Cupcake Corner Too! Open For Business

A delicious place to have a party in Garden City.

Amid the strawberry and chocolate-colored paint on the walls, the cupcakes and petit fours, smiles and icing on children’s faces, goody bags and great fun stood Garden City residents Laura and John Graney, who were happy so many residents joined them for their grand opening of Cupcake Corner Too! (CCT!) Saturday on New Hyde Park Road.

The new CCT! Craft and Party Center is located across the street from the Graneys' original bakery, The Cupcake Corner, and features a 1,500 square foot venue on two floors and a garden for all sorts of children’s and adult parties.

“We’re really excited. This is opening up a bigger venue with…more options with food and activities,” Laura Graney said. Despite opening up their original place only 15 months ago, “the parties became more and more popular and the need for a larger space became necessary very quickly.”

Juliette, 5, enjoyed her little lambie cupcake. “It tastes good and I like it here. I want to have a birthday party here!” These words were like music to Laura's and John’s ears as they signed up new clients for all sorts of parties in the coming months. Julie and Scott Baker of Garden City were among the many who booked a party – a first birthday celebration for baby Owen for 50 people.

Joanne, also from Garden City, added, “It’s beautiful and kid-friendly. I’m booking a party for my four-year-old.”

Althea Robinson, executive director of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce, stopped by to wish the Graneys and their staff much success. She enthused, “It’s about time we had a wonderful party place like this. It definitely fills an important niche in town.”

Valarie Sims and her husband, Paul, stopped by to admire the new venue. Valarie enjoyed her cupcake because, she exclaimed, “I’m a cupcake-crazy girl!”

Lucille Messina was checking the place out for a get-together with her Tri-Town Auxiliary in conjunction with the United Cerebral Palsy Association.

Residents can book parties that include ceramic painting, scrapbooking, tea party, jewelry-making and karaoke. Of course, each party has to include a cupcake decorating activity with dancing and music from their new Bose system. Adult parties have themes such as bridal showers, baby showers and ladies night out with crafts.

The parties have a nice variety of menu items made especially by professional pastry chefs with degrees from the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City, the same school featured on the TV show Top Chef.  Since there are some people who are gluten intolerant or have allergies, the Graneys worked with a dietician for extra food choices.

The Cupcake Corner Too! is located at 62 New Hyde Park Road in Garden City, just south of St. Anne’s Church. For more information call 516-328-2253 or visit www.TheCupcakeCornerGC.com.
