"I'll Have Another"

Although the Triple Crown contender dropped out of the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes, we'll bet that many people at this year's Belmont Festival in Garden City uttered this phrase regarding the delicious chicken wings served on Seventh Street Friday night.

The "Wing Off," a tasting contest featuring wings from seven local restaurants -- Walk Street, Rein at the Garden City Hotel, Pop's Wings, Famous Dave's BBQ, Murphy's and J.P. McGeever's -- was one of the highlights of the 15th annual Belmont Festival. (All the proceeds went to the Wounded Warrior Project to help injured veterans.)

The June 8 street fair, which attracted hundreds of locals of all ages, also featured pony rides, bull riding, carnival games, raffles, an inflatable rope climb, a New York Islanders hockey shoot-out and face-painting.

Entertainment was provided throughout the night by five bands -- The Fivestone, Jerry & the Newcomers, The New Vintage Orchestra, Speak Easy and The Village Music Makers -- and dancers from Broadway Bound Dance Center and the Fitzpatrick Academy of Irish Dancers.

Several of the restaurants along Seventh Street, where the fair was held, also served up some of their tasty fare at the street fair. While other local shops and vendors sold toys, hats, jewelry, horse-themed paintings and other interesting items.
