'Progressive Revival' for Honestly Delicious Café & Bakery
New Hyde Park Road business offers breakfast, lunch and assorted homemade sweets.
Honestly Delicious Café & Bakery is making a name for itself on Garden City's West end.
Owner and executive chef Christine Bernhard, who lives in Garden City, says fresh and in-season ingredients are used in all menu items and exemplary customer service keeps customers coming back for more.
Patch spoke with Christine, who was a personal chef before venturing out on her own.
How is business going since opening on New Hyde Park Road? We have seen a progressive revival at our location since our opening in mid-August. Our grand opening and Garden City Chamber ribbon cutting event in September was a success, building awareness of our brand and bringing new customers to our location. We have a steady flow of traffic. Friends, neighbors and customers come in and come back again and again.
What is your most popular item at the moment? We have a large fan base of our crumb cake, muffins as well as our scones. Our working neighbors are fond of our new from scratch soups and wraps.
Planning any new additions to the menu? Our menu includes breakfast, lunch and bakery items. At present our breakfast offerings are croissants, muffins, scones and crumb cake. Our present lunch menu includes two soups daily, assorted wraps and salads. Our bakery items include an assortment of 15 cupcakes, flourless chocolate cake, crumb cake, assorted cookies, chocolate chip coconut macaroons. We create our menu items with fresh and in-season ingredients. For example this week we had Pumpkin Soup as well as Pumpkin Scones. We are always adding items and future menu items will include Quiche, Banana and Pumpkin bread loaves, Bundt cakes, as well as new gourmet sandwiches.
Why did you choose to open a business in Garden City? Garden City has been my home for many years and when looking for locations to open a business I thought Garden City was the place to be. The clients in Garden City as well as all the surrounding areas that we serve are a perfect fit for our gourmet offerings.
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of the way the people who work at Honestly Delicious Café & Bakery have really stepped into their new roles and support the Honestly Delicious mission of greeting every person who walks through the door with a smile as well as serving the freshest and best possible products we can produce. I am also proud of the support we are getting from all of our customers. Each time a customer walks through our doors for the second time tells me they came back because they enjoyed their first experience with us.
Do you offer catering? Yes, we are taking orders for holiday food items. Thanksgiving orders for soups and pies as well as other baked goods are being taken now through Nov. 24. We have specialty items like turkey shaped cookies and festive cupcakes. Christmas orders will begin Dec. 1 through Dec. 22 and will include an assortment of Christmas-themed baked goods, cookies and desserts. We are also hosting a Brunch with Santa event in the Honestly Delicious Party and Event space located at 62 New Hyde Park Road on Dec. 15. Anyone interested can call the store for details and reservations.
