PSEG Long Island Warns of Email Payment Scam

Customers receiving fraudulent emails that look like bills sent from the utility.

PSEG Long Island issued a warning Friday, describing a deceptive email technique used to prey on customers.

According to the utility, customers have received fraudulent emails that appear to be bills from PSEG Long Island. The emails request personal information from the customers, leading to identity theft.

PSEG Long Island is alerting customers to “be wary” of these kinds of “suspicious emails.” Utility officials say they never ask customers to provide personal information online without first logging into “My Account” on the PSEG Long Island web site.

Anyone receiving a suspicious email is urged not to provide any personal information, not download any attachments, and not click on any links in the email.

“We take very seriously any attempt to defraud our customers,” said Dan Eichhorn, vice president, customer services, PSEG Long Island, in a statement.
