Revel Hits Garden City

Anticipated Franklin Avenue restaurant and bar opened Wednesday.

Combining Manhattan style and a menu sampling the globe, Garden City's newest restaurant is already serving happy customers.

The much-anticipated Revel Restaurant & Bar opened their doors Wednesday and welcomed their first enthusiastic diners.

"[The reception] has been unbelievable," said owner Jim Doukas. "People are loving the food… And they say the decor reminds them of the Meatpacking District, that it has a Manhattan vibe."

Adding to the city-meets-the-suburbs feel is a menu of American dishes with international touches. One meal, created by Executive Chef David Martinez, can span several countries, from Spanish Pimientos de Padron ($9) to English Pea Risotto ($18), Long Island Sweet Corn ($7) to Grilled Wild Alaskan King Salmon ($28).

A point of pride for Doukas is Revel's use of Aspen Ridge USDA certified beef, which is guaranteed naturally fed beef from family-owned, environmentally friendly ranches. Their prime steak menu includes filet mignon ($39), New York strip steak ($44), bone-in rib eye ($48), and a 40-ounce aged porterhouse for two ($87). Check out their full lunch menu and dinner menu

Revel has an impressive bar on top of their menu. A large section of the restaurant is built around a long bar with a wide selection of beers, wines, and liquors nestled under a large screen.

"We'll play black and white movies at night or we can show games," said Doukas.

Doukas hopes the restaurant and its global menu will be a draw for everyone, whether they want a break from work at lunchtime, a sophisticated dinner, or cocktails with friends.

"We're very community oriented and I'm proud to back in the neighborhood and a part of the Garden City business district," said Doukas, who was the previous owner of Caffe Angelica in Garden City Park. Doukas said they will strive to give back to the community they call home and work with schools, fire departments, and other organizations to help with fundraisers.
