Talbots Outlet Store's Lease Expires at Month's End

Franklin Avenue store "changing its retail strategy."

The Talbots Outlet Store in Garden City will officially close its doors Jan. 31 after calling Franklin Avenue home since 1983.

The commercial lease expires Jan. 31, according to Tom McCambridge, vice president of commercial leasing for the Albanese Organization.

The company is changing its retail strategy and prefers to be more centrally located in big box outlet centers like Tanger, McCambridge said.

Talbots outlet centers are closing in Florida, Kentucky, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

"They hung on to this location because it did so well but the 7,000 square foot box just wasn't working anymore," he said.

Merchandise is now $17.99 or less, plus, for a limited time, customers will receive an extra 20 percent off their entire purchase.

McCambridge said he's negotiating with several prospective tenants that could provide food and/or medical uses but it's "too early" to cite specifics.

The Manhattan location on Third Avenue, as well as the store located at the Tanger Outlets at the Arches in Deer Park will both remain open. Shoppers can also make purchases online at www.talbots.com.
