Garden City will soon boast its own steakhouse as the restaurant Revel makes its way to 835 Franklin Avenue, former home of Viking Culinary Center.

Trustees granted the Albanese Organization final site plan approval Thursday night to move ahead with the 147-seat restaurant complete with two dining areas (51 seats and 62 seats respectively), a lounge (20 seats) and bar area (14 seats), according to John Wilton, chair of the Professional Retailers and Merchants group.

Wilton added outside dining is also on tap for the "American-theme restaurant, with worldly influences," that will have a concentration on Prime steak.

"It's our first steakhouse in the village," he said. "It will probably be extremely successful because we've had a dire need for that all these years."

Viking, the upscale kitchen/bath retail store and cooking school which regularly offered classes, closed its doors in June 2011 after calling Garden City home for eight years.

No specific date on the restaurant's grand opening has been released.

Revel will be an outstanding addition to the eclectic venue of different foods we have available in our dining community. This will offer dining with worldly influences with a concentration on Prime Steaks. Certainly it's opening will contribute to the vibrancy of our downtown. We welcome them and let us become there customer base. We continue to grow and develop. Expend your dollars locally. Pay it Forward!! Hi Bill, according to Mr. Wilton the tapas bar and Asian-themed restaurant coming right next door to it are both coming along though no opening dates have been released.

Thanks. I'm all about capitalism, but I can't really understand why another Asian restaurant would open in GC. Tapas and steak...excellent. Mexican, great..Asian...huh?
