Vacant in Garden City: Upper Crust Café Closes Its Doors

Luncheonette turned café called Franklin Avenue home for more than 25 years.

Upper Crust Café is the latest Garden City business to fall victim of this still ailing economy.

The luncheonette turned café, which was featured in Burrous' Bites on Pix 11 News, called Franklin Avenue home for more than two decades, treating diners to breakfast, lunch and more recently dinner.

Ashley and Nicholas Lucchesi, chef, were the cafe's newest owners. Nicholas made everything from scratch, including lunch must-have “The Day After,” a meal of roasted fresh turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and mayo.

What a shame! This place was great under Nick. Really amazing stuff.

Upper Crust was terrific. Excellent food, creative menu. Very hard-working people. Sorry to see them go.

I hope Ashley & Nick are able to open another restaurant again, Nick is a gifted chef and Ashley has great style - I was so excited when they said they were going to re-do the restaurant and create a bar. Such a shame.

What a disappointment. I recently started working in the area. Working nearby many years ago, Upper Crust was a place of choice for lunch or to pick up a smoothie on the way to work. So sorry to see this mainstay leave GC.

What happened? Too high rent?

@Laurie, it seems to be a sign of the times. Upper Crust was one of my personal favorites in Garden City. Patch wishes Nick and Ashley well.
