Here are the Five Things You Need to Know for Aug. 7:
1. National Night Out: “National Night Out" is a program conducted in communities throughout the country; a program where local police departments and their community form a partnership to make their town/village a safer place. Garden City Police Detective Rich Pedone will be at the Garden City Pool beginning at 4 p.m. to discuss with residents ways the community and the police can work together in the areas of crime prevention, drug and alcohol use, driver safety and stranger/danger as well as other concerns that affect the community.
2. MTA Payroll Tax: The Long Island Assembly delegation is holding a press conference today to announce legislation to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax from Suffolk and Nassau Community Colleges. Patch will bring you coverage of the event.
3. Prost Grill & Garten: A new restaurant made its debut on Franklin Avenue Monday. Prost Grill & Garten is located next to Madison Taylor Salon where Village Valet once did business. Has anyone tried the place yet? Let us know in the comments.
4. Hempstead Town Board: The Hempstead Town Board is scheduled to hold its next meeting Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
