The Hempstead Town Animal Shelter will join some 5,000 shelters throughout the nation in marking National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month this October.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Animal Shelter, all fees will be waived on canine adoptions, spaying/neutering, rabies vaccinations and microchipping.

"We encourage residents to come down to the shelter and adopt a four-legged friend who will be a loyal companion for years to come," Shelter Director Cynthia Iacopella said.

Shelter staff will be on hand to help residents find the perfect pup for their families. And, with Halloween just around the corner, residents can purchase costumes at the shelter to dress up their new pal.

A bake sale and raffle will be held, with proceeds benefiting the shelter’s Tails of Hope Fund, used to help finance surgeries for animals.

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh. For more information about the shelter, call (516) 785-5220 or visit the shelter website.
