Mother Nature Turns It On

Heavy rains brought heavy flooding to Garden City Saturday.

A long awaited rainstorm caused major flooding in several areas of Garden City Saturday.

The downpour topped off a week of record-breaking, triple-digit temperatures that ushered in summer 2010 with a bang.

Most residents welcomed the rain because it broke a major heat wave that hit the East Coast July 4. Motorists, however, weren't as enthused.

Flares prohibited drivers from traveling through floods along Cherry Valley Avenue, near the intersection of Stewart Avenue. Flooding crept up onto the lawn of the Wyndham condominium complex and some motorists had to be towed out of the mess. Several areas of Seventh Street were also flooded.

Sunday's temperatures are expected to creep back up into the 90s with the next shot at rain likely on Tuesday.
