MTA Putting Finishing Touches on Commuter Lot Rehab

Small areas of Merillon Avenue parking lot are still cordoned off.

MTA officials say they're putting the "finishing touches" on the Merillon Avenue commuter parking lot rehabilitation project, which began June 17.

Punch-list items are expected to be finished in the "coming weeks," officials said.

The month-long project, which temporarily closed off access to approximately 50 parking spaces north of the tracks, was supposed to be completed July 17.

At the start of the project, the eastern half of the lot closed for approximately two weeks while contractors repaved and striped, and added new curbs, better drainage, new guardrails and improved signage. Closure of the western half of the lot followed for the same work.

Alternate commuter parking was available at the Mineola Intermodal Center located on the south side of the Mineola train station for $6 a day.

The Merillon Avenue station work is one of three Long Island Rail Road-owned parking lots scheduled for rehabilitation this summer at a total cost of $421,000. The others are at Lawrence and Laurelton.
