The Top Five Things You Should Know Sept. 10:

1. Trojans Football: The Garden City Trojans started the 2012 varsity football season off with a home opener win against New Hyde Park. Get the play by play here.

2. Film Commission: Should Garden City have a film commission? One resident thinks so. Find out why later this morning.

3. Red Cross: Sam Kille, regional communications director for American Red Cross - Greater New York gets personal about his experiences helping those hit by Hurricane Issac when it slammed the Gulf Coast. "There’s a certain sense of 'what’s wrong with this picture' when headed toward trouble, driving unimpeded on an interstate in one direction, while the opposite is filled with traffic" he writes. 4. FEMA: September is National Preparedness Month. To get the word out FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Authority) has built an extensive website to help citizens plan and prepare. Read more later this morning.
